![]() The Vienna's website details a lengthy history of the business, from serving soldiers of both World Wars – both before and after they went overseas – to hosting politicians, local artists, business owners and several University of Guelph students. The Sawyer family took the reins in 2010, continuing its run as one of the oldest operating establishments in Guelph and Canada. It has been through several owners over the years. The Vienna began as a bakery and coffee bar in the early 1900s, in its original location just up the street at 16 Macdonell.Īfter their first building was taken down in 1960 for a Guelph Mercury plant expansion, the business shifted down the street to where it stands today. More specifically, he added it's more or less going to be an updated look, with no changes coming to the kitchen, minimal changes to the layout. "And I think what we're going to try to do inside is bring it up to what a renovation for Vienna would be like." "We will not change the type of sign that's there right now," Garcia said. He said customers can expect the basic staples for breakfast and lunch, made to order and emphasizing local ingredients as much as possible.Īs for the physical look, the Vienna sign will be taken down but "we will keep the aesthetic of the sign," and the rest of the exterior will remain the same.
